Holiday Happenings

Our family tree is decorated with an ornament created by almost every family! Be sure to take your family ornament home for your tree as you leave for the holidays.Tuesday, Santa arrived. He brought every child a book of their very own! Friday, we enjoyed celebrating the first day of Hanakkauh with Ari’s Grandmother. Next Friday, we will continue the celebration with Hanakkauh art and cooking. This Tuesday is our annual holiday sing a long. Holiday parties are this Wednesday Dec 16. Holiday camp starts Dec17. We have a walking Christmas pagent Monday and a special storytime with hot chocolate and Christmas cookies onthe 23rd. Check our calendar for more activities and our closing days. Project Learning Tree

We are excited that Miss Wendy has completed training as a Project Learning Tree educator in conjunction with our nieghborhood school, Holiday Hill. This developmentally appropriate Environmental Education program for Pre K through Grade 8 is a perfect fit with our philosophy and goals. We are commited to providing activities that expose children to the natural world in a fun and safe way.

Fall activities

Thanksgiving is almost upon us and you don’t want to miss Miss. Yvette’s yummy feast. Yes, there is turkey with all the trimmings including Mrs. Scarborough’s traditional home made cranberry sauce. We close early that day (4 pm ) so our staff can get “home” for the holidays! Watch the online calendar for closing dates and holiday plans!

Winter camp

December holidays are sure to be a blast at Happy Acres winter camp. Camp runs Dec 21 – 23 and Dec 28 – 31. The cost is $40 a day or $140 a week, whichever is less. We’ll be fishing, riding horses, celebrating with seasonal activities and crafts, cooking and enjoying a wide range of sports and games. Don’t miss this fun and relaxing time to renew old camp friendships and make some new ones too. Breakfast, lunch and snack are included!
6:15 am – 5:45 pm. Come dressed for plenty of outdoor fun!

Halloween celebration

On Friday Oct. 30 we will start our parade promptly at 9:00. Children ariving before 8 should bring their costumes. Children arriving later should come in costume and bring a change of clothes. After the parade we will trick or treat around the property. We finish the morning with hay rides and classroom parties. Parents and siblings are welcome to join us. We are asking for donations of trick or treat trinkets, snacks or individually wrapped candy. Please see your child’s teacher to sign up to bring something for the party.

Trike a thon

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we will be participatingin the Trike a Thon for St Jude’s Research. See your child’s teacher for the schedule. Children will need a bag lunch for a picnic on their day. Money may be collected through next week adn turned in by Friday Oct 23. Thanks for helping Children with Cancer!!!!!!

On October 8, Happy Acres will be joining children across the country in breaking the record for the most readers of one book in a day! This program is sponsored by Jumpstart. We will begin our celebration with Miss Julie reading The Very Hungry Caterpiller to us in our Media Center. Following the story we will have activities set up to enrich and expand the story experience. Volunteers are welcome. We would also love some caterpillers for display if you can find any!!! Come join us for the fun!

Open House

We hope you will all be able to join us for Open house from 3:30 – 4:30 on Tuesday, September 15. Come to the Dining room for juice and cookies and then let your children show you their world! The Curious Explorers Class will hold their Open House at a later date due to the Medical Leave of Miss Debbie. This wil also give our new assistant for the class, Miss Jeevani, a chance to get to know the children. See you there!!

VPK News

We had a great group of parents and kids at orientation. A second orientation has been scheduled at 5 pm on Thursday for those who were unable to attend. Be sure to register for Gallery access on our website and look at the photos. If you did not pick up your scrapbook page, please do so on Tuesday. Fill it with photos and names of your family and return it during the first week so we can create a claass scrapbook to bring home into the classroom. Don’t forget to inculde the family pet. Come early on Tuesday for first day pictures in the dining room. Try to make the first day as stress free as possible. Make your good byes quick and confident. If you act confidently, your child will feel more secure. Remember to dress for messy play and messy work. Prepare for fun and learning.

What a great summer it has been!

I can hardly believe that summer is drawing to a close! This week is Retro week and it’s a slow and easy week to kick back and relax a little before the hustle and bustle of school. We will re -invent history and enjoy a blast from the past. Tuesday is Sixty’s Day and we’ll be dressing like Hippies. Wednesday, we go back to the Fifties with a sock hop in the gym. We hope to have on last time to fish on Wednesday. Field Day is Thursday and Friday we celebrate the last day of Camp with a hot dog roast and lots of somores. The Happy Acres traditional closing ceremony roiunds out the day and brings camp to a close with a special opportunity to say good bye till next we meet! Hope to see you for Winter and Spring camp and school holidays as well.
